The Miss Firecracker Contest

The Miss Firecracker Contest, along with other Beth Henley plays, is characterized as a Southern Gothic. The play is set in the small southern town of Brookhaven, Mississippi, and tells an archetypical story of a young woman trying to reinvent herself. The two main qualities that land The Miss Firecracker Contest squarely into the Southern Gothic genre are: the story concerns flawed characters.it occurs in a once prosperous, but now run-down town. Plot Synopsis Carnelle Scott had a rocky start in life. Her mother died and her father dragged her around the state with him until he dumped her with Carnelle’s old aunt and her two cousins. Carnelle idolized her cousins, Elain and Delmount, and believed them to be the most beautiful and interesting people in the entire town. At age 17, Elain won the title of Miss Firecracker in the local beauty contest and Carnelle never forgot the sight of her beloved cousin riding atop the Fourth of July float crowned in glory. Carnelle never achieved the beauty and social status of Elain and made up for it by sleeping with most of the young men in town earning herself the dubious title of Miss Hot Tamale. Carnelle sees a chance to erase her past and start again by winning the beauty contest. Carnelle hires Popeye, an odd girl from poor beginnings, to sew her costume for the talent portion of the show. Popeye is a talented seamstress who taught herself to sew by making clothes for bullfrogs because she had no dolls to sew for. In the course of the play, Popeye falls in love with the eccentric and frazzled Delmount. Eventually, Delmount returns Popeye’s affections and finds her odd personality something worth loving. Delmount is determined to sell every item in his mother’s old house and then the house itself and move to New Orleans. He offers half the sale to Carnelle and begs her to quit the contest and make a new life outside of Brookhaven, Mississippi. Carnelle accepts half the money but wants to continue in The Miss Firecracker contest so she can now leave â€Å"in a blaze of glory.† Elain shows up and announces to Carnelle that she is leaving her husband and two children. She has had enough of their constant need for attention and wants to walk away from it all. Carnelle is thrilled until Elain’s presence overshadows her participation in the contest. Carnelle’s anger and frustration eventually cause her to explode and spew at all her relatives and friends, insisting that she wants what she wants despite all their petty protestations. Carnelle uses the moment to fling their personality flaws back in their faces and release herself from all their judgments. Within this encounter, Elain understands that she has lost Carnelle’s hero worship and decides to go back to the husband who adores her. Production Details Setting: Brookhaven, MississippiTime: End of June and beginning of JulyCast Size: This play can accommodate 6 actors.Male Characters: 2Female Characters: 4Characters that could be played by either males or females: 0 Roles Carnelle Scott is twenty-four and ready to make a few changes in her life. She wants to turn over a new leaf and be someone who is not â€Å"Miss Hot Tamale† and is instead respected and beautiful both inside and out. If she could, she would ride out of town in a blaze of glory with the Miss Firecracker crown on her head and enough money to start again in a new town as a beautiful and talented winner.Popeye Jackson grew up as an odd girl with no money who makes outfits for bullfrogs. Now she is an odd woman with no money who makes outfits for whoever will hire her. She falls head over heels in love with the eccentric Delmount but is sure he could never return her affections. Popeye puts little value on money, talent, and beauty. She makes the world beautiful by her simple actions of generosity.Elain Rutledge enjoyed a life of beauty, talent, and adoration. Her overbearing mother, now deceased, foresaw the end of that lifestyle for Elain and pushed her into marriage. Now Elain is bored with her married life in which she is only adored by only one man and has to answer to two sons she dislikes. Her will to be free and independent is continually at odds with her desire to be wanted and admired.Delmount Williams has never had any trouble finding women who will sleep with him despite his odd appearance and temper. His recent stint in a mental institution has only fortified his eccentricities and desire to rid himself of all memory and ties to Brookhaven, Mississippi.  He prides himself on finding the beauty in those who consider themselves plain, but the truth is that he has never tried to pursue anyone or anything that would be a challenge or a true beauty.Mac Sam is an ex-lover of Carnelle’s. He contracted syphilis through Carnelle but has never sought treatment for the disease. He has a magnetic personality despite his ill appearance. He and Carnelle still share a strong attraction, but she is disgusted that he won’t do anything to better h is health or station in life.Tessy Mahoney is the beauty contest coordinator. She and Delmount shared a questionable night of lovemaking a long time ago and he has been hiding from her since. She is not a beauty and doubts Carnelle’s chances in the contest, but she seems to be a sweet and pleasant coordinator despite her opinions. She is starstruck by Elain. Production Notes Beth Henley makes a particular note at the beginning of the play about Carnelle’s hair which the character has dyed bright red. Henley notes that â€Å"It is strongly suggested that the actress playing Carnelle dye her hair bright red instead of opting for a wig.† The set for The Miss Firecracker Contest is an old southern house filled with antiques in Act One and the backstage of the beauty pageant for Act Two. The play has been produced with success both with full scenic designs and minimal scenic designs. Content Issues: Language, syphilis, talk of sexual escapades.

Is Globalization Good for Workers Definitions and...

Part One – Outline of key arguments and insights According to most economists, globalization is seen as a beneficial asset for workers, while on the other hand, various sociologists, anthropologists, and historians would beg to differ. Several data determines that even though globalization has increased average incomes in Latin America, the cases of employment quality still tend to be deteriorating. It is important to note the different dimensions of the effect globalization has caused and mechanisms that either benefit or harm workers in changes found within labour demand and work organizations. Following that, a brief summarization of the statistical data from the sectorial case study of Chile’s labour impact will be looked at. A large group of authors writing on the topic expect economic gains from globalization both for enterprises and workers, but alert to several side effects that increase insecurity for workers.11 First, structural changes in the economy in line with competitive advantage cause decline in some economic sectors and growth in others, forcing workers to survive a period of unemployment while looking for new jobs and possibly acquire new skills. Second, fluctuations in the price of products in the international economy can translate into variations of employment levels, which will cause job insecurity. Finally, short-term capital flows can have a major influence on countries’ exchange rates that in turn can endanger the competitiveness of the real economy and cause job in security. Moreover foreign investors may potentially be more prone to move on to other countries than domestic investors. Again, this would lead to more job in security. On a more optimistic note, clients’ vigilance worldwide may contribute to better compliance with basic labor standards to t he extent that Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) campaigns and negative press reports make bad publicity. Service Marketing Queen Zaria Brand

Question: Discuss about theService Marketing for Queen Zaria Brand. Answer: Introduction: As a young breast cancer survivor, life changed a whole lot for Kamya Ghose. Life was never the same again for her. After her diagnosis, things became extremely difficult. After her surgery, life did not go back to normal. She even felt lonely and isolated. As she was looking for lingerie that could fit her, she further faced more challenges. She struggled to find bras after her operation. There was need for her to regain confidence in her body and to feel and look sexy again. After the emotional turmoil, Kamya decided to develop a lingerie line which dealt with the niche market of those who had survived breast cancer. Her lingerie line did not target the whole market, but exclusively targeted women who had had surgery related to breast cancer. She decided to introduce braziers that fit the survivors, look sexy, comfortable and is specifically made for them. Queen Zaria Brand Queen Zaria brand should offer services that will match the needs of those who have undergone mastectomy. First of all, the company should avoid using the underwire while making the braziers because the underwire is mostly located at the point where the mastectomy scar is. As a result, the underwire could hurt someone who has undergone mastectomy because of the pressure points. However, they can also make a provision of braziers with the underwire to enhance maximum support of the breast forms (Riad, 2011, p. 373). Secondly, the company should adjust the traditional shapes of bras. Thirdly, the company should use stretching fabrics to accommodate those who have had mastectomy on only one side. These bras are normally made from stretch material to enable flexibility so that they do not limit the breast forms used in mastectomy. Fourth, the company should add plus sizes (Crompvoets, 2009, pp. 75-93). Some of the steps that Queen Zaria brand needs to take to ensure excellent word of mouth at the point of customer contact include; first, the company needs to access target influencers. They should communicate to influencers in their market, such as activists, journalists, bloggers or even public figures who are normally heard by a large group of people, especially on television. The company can for example hold a talk show with one of the journalists in a popularmedia house (Sernovitz, Godin Kawasaki, 2010, p. 98). Secondly, Kamya and the other members of the managing team can create occasions where they can expose their products to the general public such as a general trial day. In this, they can make the occasion open to the whole public, with a specification of the breast cancer survivors and they can be allowed to tag along with them a friend or a family member. In these forums the people are taught on the importance of putting on lingerie after mastectomy and even how to put o n the lingerie. Through this, the company will have communicated by word of mouth to their customers (Li, Lin Lai, 2010, pp. 294-304). Thirdly, the Queen Zaria brand can promote and make a follow up with their clients after a sale. They can call the client and ask them how they feel when using the product, or send them a message and give them room for feedback. Some of the reasons why digital marketing may not work well for all segments being targeted by Queen Zaria brand include; some people may face the challenge of slow internet connections especially if the company uses too complex websites which might easily make the clients feel bored (Nadaraja Yazdanifard, 2013, p. 213) . Another reason is that the clients may lack trust in Queen Zaria brand because in the digital marketing sector, there are many people who are fraudsters and this destroys the image of reputable companies like Queen Zaria. Digital marketing may not work well because since the products of Queen Zaria brand are displayed online, some companies tend to copy their product lines because in most cases the products can be copied electronically (Wind Mahajan, 2012, p. 133). As much as Queen Zaria brand uses digital marketing, it is also important to incorporate traditional marketing methods in their marketing strategy. Traditional marketing refers to marketing products via televisions, radios, newspapers or by moving door to door. Some of the ways that the company can use to carry out traditional marketing are as follows; first, the company can deploy some of the members of the sales and marketing department to visit the cancer wards in hospitals. Here they can access patients who are recuperating after surgery and tell them about their lingerie. They can also go to hospitals where cancer survivors go for therapy and checkup. Here again they can access patients who have undergone various surgical procedures and are seeking emotional help and they can be part of their emotional well-being by selling them lingerie that will make them feel and look more sexy (Shani Chalasani, 2013, p. 89-93). The company can also market their products on newspapers whereb y they can send the photos of their models to various newspaper agents and then the pictures are printed in their newspapers and sold to various clients. Through this, the information about Queen Zaria brand can reach diversified audiences and even breast cancer survivors. They can equally use radios and televisions to advertise their lingerie and this reaches their target audience in Melbourne and they are sure that the information cannot be copied by fraudsters. Queen Zaria brand can book radio and television shows where they carry out their advertising. They can inform the public on how they can use the lingerie meant for mastectomy survivors, how they can acquire them and how they can keep them clean after acquiring them (Schmitt, 2014, pp. 53-67). Conclusion It is important for the breast cancer survivors to feel and look normal again after undergoing reconstructive surgery in order to help them so that they do not face prejudice. It is complicated going through the cancer survival process. Just like Kamya, many young women suffer as they look for lingerie that fits them after undergoing mastectomy. Some fashion houses recommend that they put on sportswear which is very uncomfortable. Thanks to companies such as Queen Zaria brand which caters for the needs of breast cancer survivors, they can still look fashionable. They manufacture the ideal lingerie for these survivors which make them feel and look sexy again, and help them regain their confidence by making braziers that do not hurt them and enhance their asymmetrical look. These companies need to embrace proper marketing techniques to enable them reach their niche market. Some breast cancer survivors feel shy about their situation and therefore continue to suffer in silence. It is the refore important to reach them through methods that will be empowering to them. Queen Zaria brand can access this niche market through either traditional marketing or digital marketing. Some of the traditional marketing methods are advertising through televisions, radios or newspapers while digital marketing is where the products are advertised online. The marketing strategy is important because through this they can assist many women who are suffering and at the same time sell their products as they make enormous profits. Report Of Information Essays - Geography Of California, Rialto

Report Of Information This report is about the 3rd Annual Fall Festival Of Music, Held at Eisenhower High School, Ca. It was a local tournament at the end of marching band season. Some kids came to win, some to hope, and some to work. The primary reason for this tournament was to raise money for the Eisenhower Golden Eagle Alliance. Many bands from their respective High-Schools came to the tournament. All of them local bands, from the surrounding cites. Bands came from schools such as, Banning High School, San Gorgonio High School, Colton High School, Rialto High school, and many others. This small tournament was for the bands who, at the end of the season, looking for another trophy. There were favorites, and there were underdogs. The marching band from Colton High School was a heavy favorite, since the past years, have swept through tournaments, snatching away the sweepstakes trophies. The marching band from Rialto was not thought highly of. They, through the years, have had ups and downs, but lately the downs have outnumbered the ups. They came with a strong spirit; however this spirit only had 12 band members, which compared to their competition of 35 members, was very small. This all day event was led by student hosts, their parents, and two teachers, who came early in the morning to prepare to welcome their performing guests. Many of the students were escorts, guiding the bands around the school to practice, and to get in their places to march on the field on time. Other students were Judges Assistants, serving them food, and bringing them officials forms. The students parents served and sold food, novelty clothing, and other souvenirs. In the end, profits were made, bellies were full, and kids were satisfied. At the end of the competition, the students from the bands went home, some were happy, and some sad. Others still harbored school spirit, such as from the Band from A.B. Miller High School, who won second and third place trophies, but still cheered on their achievement. The most upset was Colton High school, who lost their sweepstakes trophies to San Gorgonio High School, a band no one really thought would win. Rialto lost their trophy to Banning High School, who laughed and jeered at their attempt at winning. "Better luck next year," was the saying of all the kids who left that day. This competition was held at our school to make money for our band. However, that was not the only reward we students attained from it. We gained a little more people skills, and learned that a winning streak can be broken, and that sometimes you just can't win. We also learned how to work together, and apprecieated the friendships we made in this program.
